Project

Herdade Do Freixo

Herdade do Freixo is one of the most recent and impacting wine projects, located in the sub-region of Redondo, in the heart of Alentejo. It has immediately surprised by the underground architecture of the entire cellar building by Frederico Valsassina. This building was the receptor of the prize building of the year by ArchDaily.

In 2019 I was invited to head the oenology at Herdade do Freixo. Besides the extraordinary building, this estate has a lot going for it when it comes to production. The vineyards, located at the bottom of the Ossa hill, with vineyards reaching 450m above sea level, create a particular Alentejo terroir.

At the same time, the soils are a mix of granite and schist, an incredible combination to produce outstanding wines. In total, we have 34ha of vineyards converting into organic. They are some of the most beautiful vineyards I have seen recently.

These give us the conditions for making this project iconic.
